We repair and replace garden fencing across Ashtead and the villages around it. A single panel that has gone over in the wind, a row of posts that have rotted at the base, or a whole boundary that has reached the end of its life and needs doing again from scratch.
Fencing is one of those jobs where the difference between a cheap job and a proper one only shows up three winters later. Posts that were not set deep enough, or concreted in badly, will lean. We set posts properly, keep the line true, and use timber that is up to the weather rather than the cheapest thing on the rack.
Storm damage we try to look at quickly, because a fence that is down is usually also a garden that is no longer secure — which matters if there is a dog or a small child on one side of it.

What it costs
Fencing is quoted per job. What it comes to depends on the length of the run, the type of fence, whether the existing posts can be reused, and how easy it is to get materials round to the back of the house.
We come and measure it, then give you a fixed price in writing covering both the materials and the labour, so there is no separate bill for timber at the end.

Questions about fencing
It is worth checking your deeds or title plan before work starts, as they often mark which boundary belongs to which property. If it is shared, or nobody is sure, most neighbours split the cost. We are happy to quote in a way you can show your neighbour, so everyone can see what is being paid for.
Yes. Small jobs are welcome — we would rather come and do one panel than tell you it is not worth our time. If the panels either side are close to going as well we will say so, so you can decide whether to do it all at once and save a second visit.
In most cases fences up to two metres are allowed without planning permission, and up to one metre where the boundary is next to a road or footpath. Listed buildings and some conservation areas have their own rules. If yours is anywhere near the limit, check with Mole Valley District Council before we start.
A properly built close board fence on well set posts should give you fifteen to twenty years. Standard panels are less, and the posts almost always fail before the panels do. Gravel boards make a real difference, because they keep the timber out of the wet ground where the rot starts.
